| I have been learning in WSI for eight months and my speaking and listening has improved. I enjoy attending E.O.L. to sharpen my language skills, which are not only important but also requisite. In addition, S.C. and C.C. are both of great help as well. I do absorb something spectacular as if it just quenches my thirst that I’ve sought for a while. The most exciting of all is O.S.C. since it offers a kind of practical situation to be in, and in which I can meet lots of students here working together on a certain topic. I consider it great fun! Furthermore, when it comes to practicing speaking, the Social Club area, where I can speak in English-only, is the best choice. That cannot be over emphasized. I love to chat with others with relish, and I may share my stories or experience in discussions on certain issues with others, and vice versa.
WSI has held several activities since I came here. They are interesting activities, such as a Thanksgiving party, Halloween party, Christmas party and so forth. It provides me a good chance to accustom myself to American culture and let me know more about the origin of American holidays. The Christmas party impressed me most. At that party, we exchanged gifts and our teacher, Andy, played well-known Christmas songs like “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”. I enjoyed listening to his singing and playing. And I had a very good time in the party. That’s why I love the activities. Sometimes I bring my own book to study in WSI. Then, sometimes I might face several problems. I am very glad to say that my personal tutor, Vanessa, would always be there when I am in need. Of course I appreciate all that the staff have offered. And I would attribute my TOEIC golden certificate to WSI. Thanks to its whole English environment, I have improved greatly. It has been such a big step for me. Finally, I would recommend my friends who want to learn English to join WSI because it is worth it. |

| As an English major, I am supposed to be good at everything about English. But honestly, I always think I still have a long way to go. Although I have already learned English for so many years, I still can’t use it as well as our mother tongue, Chinese. The more I learn, the more I feel uncertain.
Things changed after I joined WSI, the big family. It provides a “NO CHINESE” environment and professional teachers. The methods of learning English are very different from those I used to know. When doing EOL, I have to listen first (without subtitles of course), and then try to speak out. There are many activities being held in WSI. By attending the activities, I can make new friends from different fields. Creating an all-English environment is the key point. We learn English, but we seldom use it. It’s not easy to find a person who can talk with you in English all the time. But in WSI, we all have the same target, so we will try our best to speak English and make ourselves understood. My listening and speaking abilities did improve. Now I do not hesitate at all to express my thoughts or feelings in English. I would like to thank all the teachers, PTs, and staff in WSI for bringing back my lost confidence. |

| There’s no short cut in learning English but effort. I used to think that people would never speak fluent English unless they have stayed broad and have been surrounded by English-speaking environment. However, I realized I misunderstood that since I started learning English in WSI.
You can see all kinds of students in WSI, from seniors to senior high school students, and they’ve got one same goal here: improvement in English ability. For me, in the past 11 months, not only have I been learning English, but also I’ve made lots of friends: teachers, PTs, secretaries, consultants, and students of course. All of them are my excellent friends, and I always have a chat with them; even a small chat will do. It could be a pleasure even if we were just chatting for fun or about the trifles in daily life. In addition, if no one can chat with me, I’ll always talk to myself anytime anywhere. Since I started doing so, I have been aware of the progress little by little, and gradually I’ve got used to speaking English without having sentences in my mind first. The best of all, I’ve started enjoying learning English, paddling in the English world, exploring each surprise, and regarding English as part of my life. I’m really grateful for my friends in WSI. I couldn’t have reached the goal if there hadn’t been their inspiration. Even if one day I step out of here, I know the memory will be kept in my mind forever. It is the support that I have gained from every single person here to help me improve. |

| I was a student who hated English very much before and I hadn’t thought that I would love English one day. Everything changed after coming to WSI.
I stayed here for one and half years. WSI provides me with a wonderful environment to learn and practice English. That’s why I always go there and stay all night after the Encounter (our class) every day. And I can build up my courage and the skill of speaking by attending different classes. Using English-English dictionary and listening to what people say when I watch movies have already became my habits now. WSI makes me know what English is and how interesting it is. Making all kinds of friends who come from different fields in HsinChu is one of the most amusing things here because I can learn many experiences that I haven’t had from them. How nice it is to come here! If you ask me where the best way to learn English, I will tell you that the answer is going to WSI. |

| I am an English teacher. Most of the time I use Chinese to explain sentences and grammar in the textbook to my students. However, deep in my heart, I know language is for speaking not for testing. But being an English teacher, I am not so sure of my ability in speaking and listening, and I am eager to find out a way. Before I came to WSI, I had experienced various methods to improve my English. However, none of them are as useful as what I have learned in WSI. I think “environment” is the key point. Here in WSI I have lots of opportunities to practice English. Besides doing EOL, I can chat with students or staff in Speaking Center. I can watch different films and discuss with friends in WSI. I can join as many CCs and SCs as I want; some of them have even become wonderful memories in my life. After 17 months of learning in WSI, I find that I am not afraid of speaking English and really enjoy watching movies without Chinese subtitles. Before going to bed, I love to read English fiction that my PT has recommended to me. These are extra things that I never thought that I would do. And the most important thing is, it is not boring at all. |
